A New Champion Emerges.
“We won’t let this happen again”, says Tournament Director.
Ex Champion Zachary Scott hands 2025 winner Kirk Baird the Summer Trophy.
It was a cool spring day on Sunday March 23rd when a very fair man, from the misty cliffs of Fairlight, played a very fair round of golf.
After a Friday of smooth sailing alongside ex-tournament winner Jackson Kitchen, Kirk Baird took it upon himself to open up the sails and let fly through the weekend.
Although held to a draw in the pairs event on Saturday by Zac Robertson and Jordan Spira, while playing alongside ex-tournament winner Zac Scott - Kirk kept his composure to maintain a strong case into Sunday.
A lead of one point over Jackson Kitchen, who in turn had a one point lead over a chasing pack of three was little buffer, and with 7 points the difference down to 10th, there was dangerous territory ahead.
Going into Sunday after a heavy Parmigiana wasn’t ideal, but given that was half the chasing pack too - Kirk had his sights set on victory.
An early charge from both Aroon Singh and Jackson Kitchen drove Kirk into third overall - but he held his nerve throughout the back nine to refind the deadly accuracy from his early days on tour.
With the game clinched at the tee of 18, Kirk could have called it then and there. But no. He drove dead up the middle, and took aim at the bullseye. His dart? On target. With a three foot putt for his first birdie of the weekend Kirk proved once and for all that length doesn’t win championships, and neither do birdies. The winners friend is consistency… and hitting every fairway available.
Get your skin checked gentlemen, the future’s going to be blinding(ly pale).
